FAQ’s – Frequently Asked Questions
Q. I am looking for some spare parts for my reel. How can I order?
A. You can do this two ways – through the dealer that you purchased the reel from or directly from Amundson. Familiarize yourself with the printed reel parts schematic that is included with the packaging of your reel. If you do not have the schematic, you can download the schematic from the reel product page on this website or contact us for a copy. Identify the parts (identified by a number) which you would like to order spares for and then either notify your Amundson authorized dealer or call or email Amundson directly to place an order.
Q. I need to switch the hand retrieve for my fly reel from left to right. Where I can find the instructions?
A. We feature a short instructional video on how to do this on the product page for each of our current fly reel models. If your reel is an older model, contact us for instructions for your reel. You can also visit our YouTube Channel for videos on how to do this.
Q. I want to maintain and keep my reel working. Where I can find some helpful guidelines?
A. The general rule of thumb with reel maintenance, regardless of type or model, is to wipe down the exterior after each use to remove dirt and debris and store in a dry indoor area. Rinse saltwater reels with freshwater to remove salt residue before allowing to dry. Familiarize yourself with the instructions and reel parts with the documentation that is included with your reel. Some Amundson reels, like the TMX5 mooching reel, include specific instructions for care and maintenance. When you notice that reel performance (smoothness of casting, retrieve or drag performance) is degrading, it is time to disassemble the reel and apply a light cleaning to remove dirt, debris and dirty lubricants. Use a cotton bud dipped in alcohol. Re-apply lubrication sparingly on moving parts. Use a quality waterproof grease on gears/clickers and a liquid Teflon/graphite lubricant on axles and main shafts. Less is more! Take care not to contaminate carbon drag washers with lubricant. Cork drag disks should be lubricated with a light machine oil each season. Replacement/service part kits for mooching reels or spare parts for other reels are available to order (subject to availability) through your authorized Amundson dealer or directly by contacting Amundson.
Q. My rod section broke and I need a replacement. How can I order? Is it under warranty?
Please refer to our warranty page for our policy regarding warranty claims. For any warranty claim, you’ll need to fill out a warranty claim form and provide your proof of purchase/sales receipt. No warranties will be processed without original proof of purchase. Send your information to us with the section of broken rod (we only need a few inches from the ferrule), and we will see if replacement parts are available for your rod model. The broken section of your rod is needed to check for the best ferrule sizing and color match with our spares inventory. If your rod is out of warranty or if you cannot produce your sales receipt, you may purchase the replacement part at a nominal cost. If your rod is an older Amundson model, it is possible that we may not have spares to replace your broken section.
